One of the major aspects of IDX integration is SEO (one we clarify and discuss in our Real Estate SEO Guide). Diverse Solutions and IDX Broker handle indexed listings a bit differently based on how each provider has their respective systems setup.
The main difference is that IDX Broker utilizes a subdomain whereas Diverse Solutions does not.
Because of this difference, we’re often asked whether or not having indexed listings on a separate subdomain can adversely impact SEO. It’s such a common question that if you talk to IDX Broker directly, they have plenty of reasons why the subdomain is a non-issue when it comes to IDX SEO. They’ll even point you to a video of Google’s Matt Cutts talking about how there really isn’t a difference between structuring your website with separate subdomains or separate subfolders off your root domain. Moreover, from the Google Webmaster help forum:
Q: Is it better to use subfolders or subdomains?
A: You should choose whatever is easiest for you to organize and manage. From an indexing and ranking perspective, Google doesn’t have a preference.
These comments from Google’s own Matt Cutts surely adds confidence to the subdomain approach.
If you compare providers, many believe that IDX Broker offers a better value when comparing functionality and pricing against Diverse Solutions’ offering(s). If you find the subdomain setup acceptable, then IDX Broker is a very viable choice.
To be clear, both Diverse Solutions and IDX Broker offer indexable listings for your website. The difference is that those listings via IDX Broker will be on a separate subdomain from your main site (i.e. idx.yourwebsite.com). If you’re choosing between both providers for an IDX integration solution, we would encourage you to call both companies and ask the tough questions.
